Gifted Criteria
5th-6th Grade Advanced Language Arts

Minimum Entrance Criteria:
Within the preceding 24 months, the student must have earned a score of 2 standard deviations above the mean, minus the standard error of measurement (e.g., 128 on CogAT 7), on a state-approved standardized ability assessment for superior cognitive designation.
AND
Within the preceding 12 months, the student must have earned a 95th national percentile rank (NPR) or higher on two administrations of the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) reading assessment.
5th-6th Grade Accelerated Math

Minimum Entrance Criteria:
Within the preceding 24 months, the student must have earned a score of 3 standard deviations above the mean, minus the standard error of measurement (e.g., 144 on CogAT 7), on a state-approved standardized ability assessment for superior cognitive designation.
AND
Within the preceding 12 months, the student must have earned a 98th national percentile rank (NPR) or higher on two administrations of the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP). MAP math results will be the only scores utilized for program placement.
5th-6th Grade Double Accelerated Language Arts

Minimum Entrance Criteria:
Within the preceding 24 months, the student must have earned a score of 3 standard deviations above the mean, minus the standard error of measurement (e.g., 144 on CogAT 7), on a state-approved standardized ability assessment for superior cognitive designation.
AND
Within the preceding 12 months, the student must have earned a 98th national percentile rank (NPR) or higher on two administrations of the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP). MAP math results will be the only scores utilized for program placement.

Note:
Students may not skip from the grade-level general education classroom math to Double Accelerated Math. He/she must take at least one year of Accelerated Math first.
The state AIR test is a minimum competency test and is not used for placement into Accelerated Math or Advanced Language, despite the test scores being labeled “advanced” or “accelerated.
Continuing Eligibility
Once a student enters this program, he/she is eligible to continue through 6th grade regardless of any changes in test scores, unless the student is not performing successfully.
Testing Opportunities
Cognitive Testing:New students to the district will be given the OLSAT by request if they do not already have the required cognitive score upon registration (scores are valid for 24 months). The CogAT will be offered in December for 2019–2020 placement. Those who test in December and score close to the qualifying score will be given the OLSAT in April.
MAP:MAP is administered during the fall, winter, and spring. A student coming from another district can provide any MAP testing from the last 12 months. In addition, new students to Sycamore can qualify with one score from any other state-approved achievement test taken within the last 24 months, along with one MAP score.
